Dongfeng-PSA venture sales, fueled by 2 new models, jump 20%

Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co.'s sales in March rose 20 percent year-on-year to 49,009 Peugeot and Citroen vehicles.

The company, a joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Dongfeng Motor Corp., attributed the increase to the two models it introduced in China in January: the stretched Citroen C4 and the Peugeot 3008.

Through March of this year, Dongfeng Peugeot's sales rose 31 percent to 142,675 units. During the period, sales of the Citroen C4 totaled 9,760 units and those of the Peugeot 3008 were 12,135.

The company plans to launch two more models in China this year. Details are undisclosed.

In 2012, Dongfeng Peugeot, of the central China city of Wuhan, sold some 440,000 vehicles. This year, it aims to top 500,000 unit sales.

Aside from the Peugeot 3008 and the Citroen C4, Dongfeng Peugeot produces the Peugeot 207, 307, 308, 408 and 508, and the Citroen Elysee, C2 and C5.

PSA also has a joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. in the south China city of Shenzhen. That partnership is due to start producing the Citroen DS model lineup this summer.
